Vicki Yamasaki became involved in the Executive Health Program in 2005 because it was a healthcare benefit offered by her employer, OneAmerica Financial Partners. "Our entire management committee is involved in the program, she says," The company is very focused on health and wellness, which is always a good thing from the perspective of prevention."

She knows from personal experience how preventing illness can translate into healthier, happier employees, not to mention less down time when employees are sick. "I remember seeing Dr. Busk for the first time because of problems related to sinus and laryngitis that had caused me to be out of the office at least six times that year," she notes. Dr. Busk addressed the problem and, as Yamasaki explains, provided a solution that took into account her personal wellness goals. "One thing I like about Dr. Busk is that he always involves me and we work together so that the healthcare program fits with my lifestyle. He found the right solution and this past year I did not miss one day of work."

Yamasaki also notes the amount of educational information she has received through the program, which relates to disease prevention. "This really has turned out to be very educational. They provide a lot of information and show you the evidence of how prevention works. One thing they do is try to head things off at the pass."

While Yamasaki has always remained active and focused on her health, she admits to having changed her daily eating habits considerably since she became involved with Executive Health. Her hectic schedule dictated many restaurant or fast-food meals. Now she knows what to choose as healthy menu options. She also has learned that exercising doesn't have to mean finding hour-long blocks of time in her day. "I start my day very early with core exercises and finish my day by walking. Splitting things up also helps with relaxation and stress relief. The biggest help to me is the combined focus on health, wellness and fitness."
