Clinical Interests:occupational lung disease, cardiopulmonary exercise and pulmonary function testing, pulmonary physiology, acid-base balance, ventilator management and COPD
Research Interests:Delirium in the ICU - this is a collaborative effort with Geriatrics, Pulmonary Critical Care and the Center for the Aging Brain, Regenstrief Institute. The aim is to identify delirium using confusion assessment method(CAM ICU), randomize patients to avoidance of all input, medication and manipulation known to contribute to delirium via a computerized model; measure blood markers such as serum anticholinergic activity, SAA, add low does haloperidol and compare the group with usual care to that with computerized assist at avoidance of delirium promoting input. This ongoing study involves the efforts of clinicians from pulmonary/critical care medicine, geriatrics, biostatistics, pharmacy/pharmacology and nursing and has resulted in multiple publications in its first year.
